Where the Poppies Now grow by Hilary Robinson and Martin Impey
This Half Term:
In English we are going to be using the stimulus of 'Where the Poppies Now Grow', which is about World War 1 and learning how this has shaped the world that we live in today. It is beautiful, thought provoking book, which tells the story of two friends through rhyme.
We will also be focusing on developing handwriting skills. We will be sending home some activity sheets for your child to practice.
Additionally, we are will be continuing to develop our sentence skills. by using sentences with different forms for example; statements, commands, questions and exclamations.
We are waiting patiently for our brand new books to arrive.
In reading we are continuing to apply phonetic knowledge to help us to become better readers.
Your child will bring home a reading book everyday. Please try to support by making time to listen to them read and to develop their love of reading.
Your child should be bringing home their planner every day. There is space for you to write a short comment about how your child is reading. Please feel free to use this space as a communication between yourself and the adults in class.
You will by now have received a letter from school about Reading Champions.
This person should be a male family member who is the ONLY person who may use the special green pen to write comments. The more comments- the more prizes!
Remember that practice makes perfect!
