Reading Tips From Michael Rosen
I attended a Headteacher Conference today where I was fortunate to meet the actual Sir Michael Rosen in Person.
Michael Wayne Rosen (born 7 May 1946) is an English children's novelist and poet, the author of 140 books. He served as Children's Laureate from June 2007 to June 2009. He has also been a TV presenter and political columnist.
Today, he gave the following fundamental questions you should ask your children when sharing a book - which I thought would be extremely useful for parents and carers to refer to when reading to or with their children:-
Is there anything in this book that reminds you of anything that has happened to you?
Is there anything in this book that reminds you of anything you have ever read somewhere else, watched or seen on TV?
If you could ask any character in the book a question - what would it be?
Sir Michael Rosen also expressed the importance of letting your children choose their own books.
I was hugely inspired by his ideas and enthusiasm and will be sharing his tips with the teachers and children of Marshfield over the forthcoming weeks.
