Learning Sequences
Our teaching sequence has been designed to progressively teach children the knowledge and skills they need to become confident speakers, readers and writers. Reading is a continuous thread throughout the teaching sequence.
Reading at home is essential for children to become confident readers. We support parents to read with their children at home and encourage children to read at home for at least 3 times a week.
In order to close the gender gap in reading, we promote reading at home with a male relative/ a trusted adult in school to boost children's reading attainment.
At Marshfield Primary School, we teach phonics using the Read Write Inc approach from Nursery and throughout the school years. Read Write Inc is a structured and systematic approach to teaching literacy and it is designed to create confident readers, fluent speakers and willing writers.
