Science

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the Primary
Science Quality Mark for our delivery of the Science Curriculum.

At Marshfield Primary, we recognise the importance of science and
technology in everyday life. Our curriculum builds on the natural curiosity
of children and develops both their subject knowledge and their scientific
skills, enabling them to critically evaluate information and link their
learning to everyday life. By the time they leave us, children will be
confident and competent scientists, ready for their time in Key Stage 3
and aware of career opportunities in STEM.
We adopt a fully inclusive, mind-friendly approach to teaching and
learning in Science where children are challenged sufficiently in a
supportive environment. Assessment for learning allows children and
teachers to review the strategies and methods used in the lessons, thus
always moving learning on. All teachers follow a clear teaching sequence
of progression throughout each area of Science following the CUSP
Science scheme.

Aims
The national curriculum for science aims to ensure that all pupils:
· develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through
the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.
· develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of
science through different types of science enquiries that help them to
answer scientific questions about the world around them.
· are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the
uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
Our Science curriculum connects strongly with other subjects across the
curriculum. Children apply skills such as measurement and statistics
from Maths when carrying out investigations. Their understanding of the
human body also supports learning in PE, where they explore exercise
and fitness, and in PSHE, where they consider healthy eating and self-care.

Our children in the Foundation Stage receive a personalised curriculum
designed around the Understanding the World curriculum. The UTW
curriculum plan has clear learning objectives and prescribed vocabulary
that are progressive, helping children build on their knowledge, skills and
understanding in preparation for the Y1 Science curriculum.

The science curriculum is enriched through the Carlton Edge
programme, which gives children exciting hands-on opportunities to
explore scientific ideas. Through practical investigations and real-world
experiments, pupils deepen their understanding and develop a genuine
enthusiasm for science.

Hey there, couldn’t help noticing you’re using Internet Explorer

That’s great and all, and we commend you for pushing through with it. Unfortunately we no longer offer support for IE; it hasn’t received a major update since 2015 and Microsoft are dropping support for it later in the year.

If you’re using Windows 10 and want to stick with a built in browser, please consider switching to Edge. Or, if you really want to enjoy the internet properly we strongly recommend downloading Google Chrome here.
