We are proud to deliver a rich, engaging, and inclusive music curriculum
through the Sing Up scheme. We believe that every child is musical and that music has the power to inspire, unite, and build confidence.

Our curriculum ensures that children experience high-quality
music-making in a joyful but structured way, allowing them to explore, create and perform with growing skill and independence. Through weekly music lessons, children sing, play instruments, listen to a wide range of musical styles, and develop an understanding of how music is constructed. Sing Up provides a clear progression of skills, enabling pupils to revisit and deepen their understanding year after year.
Our Vision for Music
We aim to ensure all children:
Feel confident expressing themselves through music
Develop strong aural and listening skills
Understand key musical elements such as rhythm, pitch, tempo, and dynamics
Experience performing both individually and as part of an ensemble
Explore composition and improvisation using voice and instruments
Grow into reflective, imaginative, and enthusiastic musicians
Our Approach
Music at Marshfield is fully inclusive and designed so that every child succeeds. Lessons are practical, interactive, and delivered in a supportive environment where children are encouraged to take risks, be creative, and enjoy making music together.
Teachers use continuous assessment for learning to help pupils reflect on their musical skills and to plan the next steps. The Sing Up curriculum provides a clear progression of knowledge and skills from EYFS to Year 6, ensuring consistency and a strong musical foundation for all.
Intent
Using the Sing Up curriculum, we ensure progression of musical knowledge and skills through singing, listening, performing, composing, and appraising. We believe all pupils can succeed in music and benefit from experiences
that build creativity, confidence, and cultural awareness.
By the end of Key Stage 2, children will be able to:
Sing and perform with control, accuracy, and expression
Use musical vocabulary confidently when discussing and appraising music
Demonstrate strong listening skills and awareness of musical elements
Create and improvise using a range of instruments and vocal techniques
Show increasing confidence performing to an audience
Understand and appreciate a broad range of musical traditions, genres, and styles
Our Music curriculum ensures that all children leave Marshfield Primary School as confident performers, thoughtful listeners, and imaginative composers.
