Geography

At Marshfield Primary School Geography is delivered through a well- sequenced, knowledge rich curriculum that uses an enquiry-based approach. This combines classroom learning with regular fieldwork and leverages diverse resources like maps and digital technology such as Aerial photographs and Google Earth.

Our Geography curriculum is meticulously sequenced so that each enquiry explicitly draws upon prior learning from EYFS to Year 6.

The curriculum uses the local area as a starting point for understanding geographical concepts and contrasts with diverse locations to broaden pupils’ global perspectives and awareness.

Its connected structure ensures pupils become more expert with each study.

Fieldwork is integral with opportunities to explore the school grounds, local area and wider regions through our Carlton Edge programme.

Employing tools such as knowledge organisers to highlight key information helps build a rich bank of geographical understanding.

Formative assessments such as daily questioning and retrieval quizzes address knowledge gaps in real time to ensuring responsive teaching to secure progress for all.

Specific geographical vocabulary is planned sequentially across year groups and explicitly taught. This focus on language breaks down barriers and enables pupils to articulate their understanding effectively.

Hey there, couldn’t help noticing you’re using Internet Explorer

That’s great and all, and we commend you for pushing through with it. Unfortunately we no longer offer support for IE; it hasn’t received a major update since 2015 and Microsoft are dropping support for it later in the year.

If you’re using Windows 10 and want to stick with a built in browser, please consider switching to Edge. Or, if you really want to enjoy the internet properly we strongly recommend downloading Google Chrome here.
