At Marshfield we pride ourselves on our love for reading.
Reading is a skill that is vital in supporting every child’s learning across the whole curriculum. As a school, we will ensure that our children are taught to read with fluency, accuracy and understanding through a variety of discrete reading lessons and cross-curricular learning opportunities.
Above all, our aim for the children in our school is to become enthusiastic and independent readers with a love of reading that will help them fulfil their full potential.
Children in Year 2 – Year 6 have access to Accelerated Reader.
What is Accelerated Reader?
Accelerated Reader is a computer programme which enables teachers to manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Children pick a book at their level, and read it their own pace. When finished, children take a short quiz on the computer to check they have understood what has been read. This is completed in school. We aim for 70% or above as a pass rate. Each assessment week children will complete a STAR reader assessment to gain their new book level.
All children have their own logins which should be in their planner. Children can click here to access the site: Accelerated Reader login
How do I know which books are on Accelerated Reader?
You can use AR Bookfind to look for books that have quizzes: https://www.arbookfind.co.uk/
Our writing curriculum is carefully planned to ensure progression of skills, as well as coverage of genres, so that the children leave our school with a varied skill set. These skills are then applied in other subjects through opportunities promoted in our topics.
That’s great and all, and we commend you for pushing through with it. Unfortunately we no longer offer support for IE; it hasn’t received a major update since 2015 and Microsoft are dropping support for it later in the year.
If you’re using Windows 10 and want to stick with a built in browser, please consider switching to Edge. Or, if you really want to enjoy the internet properly we strongly recommend downloading Google Chrome here.
