Romulus and Remus
As part of the 'Rocky Romans' topic we read and explored the myth of Romulus and Remus. The children loved this text and enjoyed taking on the role of the different characters in the story. They learnt about the life of two brothers and how they were abandoned by their parents at birth and placed in the river Tiber. They were discovered by a wolf and bought up by a poor shepherd. Eventually the brothers quarrelled over where they should build their kingdom and Remus was killed by his brother. The children enjoyed re-writing the story with an alternative ending as they believed the ending should be a much more pleasant one than it was.
Pack of Pompeii
We are now reading the 'Pack of Pompeii' story that was written from the perspective of a pack of dogs. They worked on the Mount Vesuvius and they explain the devastation and destruction of the volcano throughout the story. The children have enjoyed reading this story to learn more about the disaster of Pompeii. They have tried hard to imagine what life would be like if they had been there in 79AD. The children have written fantastic diary entries and will be moving on to creating newspaper articles too.
